About the action

Natagora is a Belgian association formed in 2003 from the merger of two associations: Aves and Réserves Naturelles RNOB. This merger strengthened their actions and missions in biodiversity protection. Their primary goal is to protect nature, mainly in Wallonia and Brussels. Their objective is to "halt the degradation of biodiversity and rebuild a healthy state of nature, in balance with human activities."

Natagora engages in several missions, such as creating and protecting natural reserves, studying species' needs to better understand them, challenging decision-makers, and educating the public about the environment to foster responsible actors.

Natagora operates in various environmental sectors with three main actions:

  • The association invites citizens to participate in the "nature at home" project by observing, identifying, and counting birds in winter and butterflies in summer on balconies or in gardens to monitor populations,
  • It facilitates collaboration between farmers and naturalists: collaborative efforts are established to redeploy biodiversity and preserve refuge spaces in agricultural environments, particularly by supporting farmers who adopt agro-ecological methods,
  • The association supports sheep farming practices through the "flowering wool" project, which values the wool of sheep grazed on sites of high biological interest that are favorable to biodiversity.

Natagora was named "ambassador of sustainable development" in 2018. As an active player in Belgian society, it aims to "place biodiversity protection at the heart of human development."
